“Just Say No” to Those Credit Card Offers

I’m sure you get tons of credit card offers in the mail just like me. They all come with tempting offers of low interest rates and no annual fees. I even am convinced to take some of them out of the envelope and read them. Ultimately, I decide against most of them. If you are having trouble “just saying no,” here are some suggestions you might want to think about.

  • How many credit cards do you really need? Most people can operate with one or two. Try limiting yourself to two credit cards (or even one!).
  • Are you already in trouble with your credit? If you are, some credit card companies will still offer you cards—but with outrageous interest rates and fees. Beware of these offers.
  • Read the fine print. Of course you like the offer from the credit card company; it’s an advertisement. If you don’t qualify for this fabulous card that they’ve offered, they may have another one with high interest rates and hidden fees that is just right for you. And it’s not their fault you didn’t know! It’s in the fine print…
  • Prepare for the worst in rates. Interest rates go up and down. Right now, we are all enjoying nice low interest rates. But, everything is cyclical and interest rates, like everything else, will go back up. Can you still handle a payment that has 2% higher interest?

If you’ve already fallen into trouble with credit cards, it may be time to look at other options for relieving your debt. Contact an attorney with experience in debt relief to fully understand what your possibilities for relief are.
