Why Finding a Cheap Bankruptcy Attorney Won’t Help You

If you have ever searched for a lawyer, I’m sure you’ve thumbed (or clicked) through the classic lawyer advertisements. Most of them have some headline like, “Cheap Attorney Ready to Help You,” or, “Low Cost Legal Advice.” While that may catch your eye, you may be missing some facts.

First of all, you get what you pay for. If you find an attorney who says he is the cheapest in all of St. Louis, he is probably telling the truth. What he is not telling you is what that means. You are paying for him to do the bare minimum—or may be less. An attorney who isn’t charging you much probably won’t be doing much for you.

You see, unlike other areas of the law, bankruptcy attorney fees are regulated by the court. In fact, we all charge the same hourly rate because of that. And, since 99% of bankruptcy cases require teh same amount of work, it is logical that we all end up charging the same amount in total fees. The difference is that I believe in being totally honest and up front about the costs instead of low balling you to entice you to sign up and then giving you a huge surprise later when it is too late to get someone else.

Second of all, reevaluate your criteria. Why are you searching for the cheapest attorney anyway? If you had to have open heart surgery, would you be searching for the cheapest doctor? No. You would be looking for the best.

Third of all, focus on moving forward with your life. Many attorneys don’t offer any sort of assistance after they have filed your case. There are certain mistakes you can make after bankruptcy that could leave you in the same place you started or worse. If you have to file bankruptcy twice, you will end up paying more than you thought you would anyway.

After 15 years, I can’t tell you how many clients I’ve had come in to see me after another office didn’t handle their case correctly. Castle Law has only become the best bankruptcy firm in St. Louis because we can guarantee you the best service. So, go ahead and do it right the first time.
