Michael Vick Scores in Court
As I performed my usual morning ritual of sipping coffee and scrolling through the latest news, I couldn’t help but notice one name all over the news: Michael Vick. His name has no doubt been newsworthy over the last few years, but what had he done this week? All of the news stories sported the same headline: Michael Vick’s Bankruptcy Had Been Approved.
In terms of bankruptcy, Vick is not so different from everyone else. He was, at one time, the highest paid player in the NFL but it seems that without a budget, Michael Vick got himself into trouble. But how can someone who makes so much money run out?
Properly handling your finances doesn’t have much to do with how much money you make. Sitting down and keeping track of your income and expenses is always necessary. So, if you haven’t, sit down and start a budget. I’ll even help you learn how.
The other point that struck me in this case was Vick’s attitude. He was, dare I say, happy. Vick was happy to get his life in order, happy to get back to work, and happy to move on. This feeling is also not unique to Michael Vick. He has displayed perfectly through his statements the relief and freedom that bankruptcy provides for my clients everyday.
I am not trying to give any sort of opinion on the criminal matters Mr. Vick has gone through. I learned a long time ago that unless you know the true facts of a case, you cannot make an informed opinion about the parties involved. I merely wrote this post to show that bankruptcy is an option the great majority of the time, no matter what led you into financial difficulty.
If I have changed your impression of bankruptcy, even just a little bit, I have done what I’ve set out to do. Want to know more?
