Start Over! Everyone Else Is…
As I was reading the news this morning, I started noticing some famous names tied to bankruptcy. Actor Stephen Baldwin, baseball star Lenny Dykstra, and actress Kim Basinger have all filed for bankruptcy protection recently. We often think of bankruptcy as excluding the famous and successful celebrities—but that isn’t true. Who else has filed bankruptcy?
Cyndi Lauper filed for bankruptcy after her first attempt to get into the music business.
Donald Trump filed for bankruptcy twice after an endeavor with a casino failed.
Mike Tyson filed for bankruptcy after he could no longer handle his mounting bills.
What do all these people have in common? They started over. Clearly, bankruptcy can happen to anyone. Bankruptcy wasn’t the end of Cyndi Lauper’s career; it was the beginning. It wasn’t a big flop for Donald Trump. It was an opportunity to create more successes. Bankruptcy wasn’t the end of Mike Tyson. It was a path he took to get his life back on track.
Filing for bankruptcy doesn’t make you a failure. It keeps you from failure. The weight can be lifted off your shoulders. The world can once again be your oyster. This is the essence of bankruptcy.
Stop suffering under debt you can’t handle and start over.
